Explore DAOU's hometown with local bites, concerts, and excellent wine
Paso Robles downtown area continues to epitomize that rustic, small town charm where cuisine, culture, and community come together.
Standing at an elevation of 2,200 feet, DAOU Mountain boasts an incomparable view of Paso Robles, the rustic town that offers a world-class culinary experience through its bounty of olive groves and vineyards. But if you’re curious to look beyond our tasting room—and see what makes this area so magical—descend the mountain, and explore downtown Paso Robles.
Once a retreat for the Salinan Native Americans, Paso Robles has become a hidden gem of Central California—largely thanks to the arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century.
Though Paso Robles was previously known for its mud baths and thermal springs, it’s now considered an agricultural hub with over 250 wineries.
Today, the town spans across 12,740 acres—and is home to over 30,000 people—but its downtown area continues to epitomize that rustic, small town charm where cuisine, culture, and community come together.
The Paso Robles downtown features a quaint square surrounded by shops and restaurants. With everything from elegant, high tier restaurants to small ice cream shops, the downtown has everything you need for a day in the park.
We recommend grabbing your favorite Estate Sauvignon Blanc from DAOU and heading to the North County Farmers Market (or, if you have time, the San Luis Obispo Farmers Market) to score the best, fresh produce for the ideal picnic in Downtown City Park.
For a simple, but exceptional, picnic, our Chef recommends you pairing peaches, nectarines, and burrata with our Estate Sauvignon Blanc, which features light notes of lemongrass, passionfruit, and apricot. The pairing is perfect for a light afternoon lunch in the California Sunshine.
If you’re looking for a midday pick-me-up, get a caffeine boost at Spearhead Coffee for the highest quality, ethically sourced Specialty Coffees. Or if coffee isn't your thing and you are seeking something sweet, swing by Negranti Creamery for a handcrafted ice cream made with wholesome ingredients. Since both spots are located minutes from Downtown City Park, you won’t have to go far for a treat.
Enjoy the town’s Concerts in the Park, a summer series that features live music every Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Come night, you can enjoy the town’s Concerts in the Park, a summer series that features live music every Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. To score the best seat, and parking, spot we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to showtime.
Though Downtown City Park does have plenty of paid and free parking options, space can be limited so you might want to check the Chamber of Commerce’s website for any significant parking changes.
Don’t forget to bring a lawn blanket or beach chairs and, of course, a bottle of DAOU wine! (As long as you keep alcohol inside the concert perimeter, you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages.)
Before you claim your spot for the concert, stop by Di Raimondos Italian Market for some incredible culinary options to create a picnic charcuterie. We recommend a creamy goat's milk gouda to go along side our Estate Semillon. The cheese will perfectly highlight the notes of jasmine, acai, and vanilla.
Once you have all your essentials, it’s time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the show.

Chef Spencer takes immense pride in his food and makes a point to source only the highest quality, local ingredients. His philosophy is to bring out the natural essence of the ingredients and play them to their strengths. It is with this passion and care that he partners with Stepladder Ranch & Creamery to source locally raised pork.
Mainly a creamery who produces small batch and artisanal cheeses from the goats they raise, your mouth will water at their incredible gold-medal winning selection of cheeses.
Along with produce and dairy products, Stepladder Ranch also raises pigs for their pork program. The pigs are mostly a blend of a couple of heritage breeds: large black, old spot, red wattle, and berkshire. They have an 8 acre pen that they generally ignore the fence of and roam freely on the ranch.
A family run business, Stepladder Ranch & Creamery welcome visitors to experience the farm (and play with the goats!) for themselves!
