Cuvée Katherine

Introducing Cuvée Katherine, a new Cabernet masterwork from Winemaker Daniel Daou.

Inspired by Daniel’s daughter Katherine Daou, Cuvée Katherine is a blend of experimental Cabernet Sauvignon clones grown adjacent to the winery tasting room on DAOU Mountain.

DAOU’s experimental site features 11 different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. Here, Daniel performs annual winemaking trials to identify the next great Cabernet clones that will shape the future of DAOU.

However, in contrast to Daniel’s individual clonal trials, Cuvée Katherine is a “field blend” of all 11 clones, picked and co-fermented together to create a Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable complexity. The wine was then aged for 21 months in French oak barrels featuring premium wood from the Jupille and Tronçais forests, providing for seamless integration and maturation.

The result is a wine that reflects Daniel’s continual pursuit of discovery, made in honor of his daughter’s creative and innovative spirit. In Daniel’s words, “Cuvée Katherine is a very unique expression of Cabernet Sauvignon that has rarely ever been attempted, with 11 different clones married into one wine. This is an incredible wine that hits all of the notes: blue fruits and black fruits, with great aromas, structure and concentration.”
