The name Mayote is a tribute to the mother of Georges and Daniel Daou. The 2017 vintage showcases the remarkable synergy between Bordeaux and Rhone varieties grown on DAOU Mountain. A sumptuously rich bouquet offers notes of wild berries and sweet spices with a hint of smoked bacon. The palate is pure and elegant with flavors of blackberry, cassis, graphite and licorice, all accompanied by a touch of minerality that comes from the mountain’s limestone soils. The tannins are beautifully integrated, providing for a long, lingering finish. While approachable now, the 2017 Mayote will only improve with careful cellaring over the next several years.
