The 2016 Mayote showcases how well Bordeaux and Rhone varieties can come together on DAOU Mountain during a remarkable vintage. The wine presents a sumptuously rich bouquet of wild berries and sweet spices with a hint of smoked bacon. On the palate, it is pure and elegant with flavors of blackberry, cassis, graphite and licorice accompanied by a touch of minerality that comes from the limestone in the soil. The tannins are very well integrated with the fruit, giving it a long finish that lingers on the palate. While approachable now, it will only improve from a few years in the cellar.
