2019 RESERVE UNBOUND
The 2019 DAOU Reserve Unbound is a daring blend of Petite Sirah, Tannat, and Tempranillo. This wine offers scintillating aromas of warm blackberry cobbler, Zante currants and blueberry compote, all underscored by hints of graphite, dark chocolate and cherry pipe tobacco. Notes of damp earth, truffle, and black olive round out the exquisitely layered and complex nose. On the palate, a mouth-filling cascade of juicy boysenberry, tangy plum, and succulent blueberry floods the senses. Under this core of ripe fruit lies cassis, wet stone, dried herbs, and espresso bean. Firm, fine-grained tannins provide ample structure and a graceful texture, leading to a magnificent, lingering finish of cherry, cranberry and cocoa.
2019 SOLOMON HILLS PINOT
This limited-edition Pinot Noir comes exclusively from the famed Solomon Hills Vineyard, the westernmost vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley, just 11 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Winemaker Daniel Daou believes that favorable conditions in 2019 allowed him to produce our best wine yet from this revered vineyard. This is a wine that manages to ring every bell of a world-class Pinot Noir: elegant and powerful, yet feminine and pleasureful, with beautiful purity through the finish. While approachable now, it will continue to evolve gracefully in the bottle over the next several years.
2019 RESERVE SEVENTEEN FORTY
Inspired by the wines of Saint-Émilion, the 2019 DAOU Reserve Seventeen Forty presents a harmonious marriage of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The nose is rich and refined, revealing scents of ripe boysenberry, fragrant plum, sweet cherry, cocoa and pomegranate. Subtle notes of crème de cassis, black olive, pencil lead and sandalwood underpin the lush fruit aromas. Flavors of blackberry, cherry, dark chocolate and espresso dominate the palate, accented by hints of truffle, tobacco leaf and dried flowers. This wine is beautifully structured, with supple tannins that provide the backbone for a long, vibrant finish of black plum, currant, loganberry and mocha. While eminently approachable now, this 2019 vintage will reward careful cellaring for years to come.
