Unbound

The 2019 DAOU Reserve Unbound is a daring blend of Petite Sirah, Tannat, and Tempranillo. This wine offers scintillating aromas of warm blackberry cobbler, Zante currants and blueberry compote, all underscored by hints of graphite, dark chocolate and cherry pipe tobacco. Notes of damp earth, truffle, and black olive round out the exquisitely layered and complex nose. On the palate, a mouth-filling cascade of juicy boysenberry, tangy plum, and succulent blueberry floods the senses. Under this core of ripe fruit lies cassis, wet stone, dried herbs, and espresso bean. Firm, fine-grained tannins provide ample structure and a graceful texture, leading to a magnificent, lingering finish of cherry, cranberry and cocoa.

Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Each year, the DAOU Estate Cabernet Sauvignon showcases what is possible from DAOU Mountain fruit in the masterful hands of Winemaker Daniel Daou. Now comes the 2019 vintage, which is arguably our best Estate Cabernet Sauvignon to date. This wine presents remarkable texture and density, revealing notes of crème de cassis, black cherry, blackberry and tobacco with undertones of mineral and earth. Full bodied and well structured, this wine maintains its freshness and elegance into a long finish.

Estate Cuvée Lizzy

The 2019 DAOU Estate Cuvée Lizzy is a signature Bordeaux-style blend from Winemaker Daniel Daou. This wine bursts from the glass with a floral bouquet of lilac, violet and cigar box. A full-bodied palate displays phenomenal texture and impressive fruit quality, revealing deep flavors of blackberry, blueberry and black currant. The entire experience is seamless through the finish, backed by a fine structure that will enable the wine to age beautifully in the bottle.

Mayote

The name Mayote is a tribute to the mother of Georges and Daniel Daou, signifying her enduring love and strength. Each year, this powerful blend showcases the synergy between Bordeaux and Rhône varieties grown on DAOU Mountain. True to form, the 2018 vintage boasts an opaque purple-black color with explosive aromas of violet, lilac, boysenberry, black cherry and blackberry pie. The palate delivers prodigious flavors of black and blue fruits with hints of vanilla bean, pencil shaving, licorice, cigar ash and chocolate-covered cherries. The tannins are silky and well integrated, allowing the wine’s beautiful freshness and complexity to resonate across a long, enduring finish.

Bodyguard

The 2019 Bodyguard is the next masterwork by Winemaker Daniel Daou. This wine opens with a vibrant, fragrant nose of blueberry cobbler, cherry pipe tobacco, dark chocolate and espresso laced with hints of sandalwood, licorice and pencil lead. Underlying layers reveal notes of mulberry and truffle, all accented by suggestions of black currant, kirsch, bay leaf and vanilla. The palate is silky and graceful, unfolding with lavish flavors of cherry pie, plum, blackberry jam and raspberry—all converging seamlessly with earthy notes of cigar box, leather, black olive and crushed sage. Ripe, supple tannins provide structure, volume and a velvety mouthfeel, resulting in a powerful, elegant finish with suggestions of cherry, cranberry, plum and crushed stone. While approachable now, the 2019 Bodyguard is a wine that will reward patient cellaring for years to come.

Seventeen Forty

Inspired by the wines of Saint-Émilion, the 2019 DAOU Reserve Seventeen Forty presents a harmonious marriage of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The nose is rich and refined, revealing scents of ripe boysenberry, fragrant plum, sweet cherry, cocoa and pomegranate. Subtle notes of crème de cassis, black olive, pencil lead and sandalwood underpin the lush fruit aromas. Flavors of blackberry, cherry, dark chocolate and espresso dominate the palate, accented by hints of truffle, tobacco leaf and dried flowers. This wine is beautifully structured, with supple tannins that provide the backbone for a long, vibrant finish of black plum, currant, loganberry and mocha. While eminently approachable now, this 2019 vintage will reward careful cellaring for years to come.
